This coming Friday and Saturday, September 11 & 12, Harrison Street DIY will be working on the build out of the 2015 Rocket Grants awarded project The Columbus Park Skate Park. As part of the overall scope of the project, members of the public are invited to come and help – and learn how to build for themselves. Friday will focus on framing, and then Saturday will feature concrete pouring.
As you will see on their blog, the team has been doing amazing things working with neighborhood residents, the City, press, materials experts, skate park designers and funders.
They have also just announced the receipt of a further award – a matching grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation that will allow them to meet their long-term budget goals.
For a really inspiring overview of the project as a whole, and the ripple effects of persistent community engagement in general, listen to this podcast interview with Ben Hlavacek about the project on ‘The Plural Of You’.
