RAICES Benefit with Making Movies and More

On Friday, August 16th, at Liberty Hall, I Heart Local Music Magazine will host a fundraiser for RAICES. The immigrant rights organization, based out of Texas, provides free and low cost legal services to immigrant and refugee families. All ticket sales will go towards providing legal aid via the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services.

The night will feature Kansas City’s own Making Movies, as well as Maria the Mexican, and Mr. & Mrs. Dodge (Arthur Dodge and Meghan Heriford of Ladybird Diner). Last year Making Movies, partnered with RAICES to bring awareness to the family separation and detention crisis at the US border, creating a #ReuniteEveryChild T-shirt and hosting “Rally For RAICES” concerts in Chicago and New York that raised funds toward the cause.

Founder and editor of I Heart Local Music Magazine Fally Afani says of the event, “I am the daughter of an immigrant. Most of the lineup are also descendants of immigrants. We actually tried to do this last year, but lacked some funds to pull it off. Thanks to the Rocket Grant, we are able to pay for some things to make this a reality.

This is a cause close to our hearts. This is an event that is bringing all facets of the arts community together.”

More information about the event can be found on their event page and tickets can be purchased here. Come out and support!
