Final selections were made in May/June 2010, through 2015 for six rounds of applications to the Rocket Grants project awards program, an opportunity available to artists who live within an 80-mile radius of downtown Kansas City – including Lawrence, KS, Topeka, KS, St. Joseph, MO, Warrensburg, MO and Sedalia,MO (see map). Rocket Grants are specifically intended to encourage work that is inventive and “under the radar”, and that engages or benefits an audience somewhere outside of traditional or established arts venues. Selections are  evaluated not only on the artistic merits of the proposed projects, but also on their capacity to stimulate further growth of a diverse and supportive art ecology.

The images in the slide show are of the award winning artists at receptions to honor them in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The 2010 gathering was in the Rose Room at Loose Park.  In 2011 it was held at at the Lakeside Nature Center in Swope Park,  in 2012  at the Linda Hall Library. Click on these links to see images from the ceremonies in 2013 at Just Off Broadway Theater, and in 2014 in the Corinthian Hall of the Kansas City Museum.
