Today was release or launch day and the team met at CAPs at 9 and jumped right in on getting things ready. We worked out the kinks for broadcasting a signal from outside to a computer inside the building and dealt with a set back in the overheating of the radio transmitter. That ruined a battery and starting melting the heat sink adhesive — it was that hot!
Outside the team was inflating the balloon and periodically testing its lifting capabilities. We were looking for around 8 lbs. Despite all precautions the balloon slipped from the hands holding it while trying to attach the spring scale.
So…we had a spare balloon, a ready to attach payload package but no more helium. After some discussion we will try again on Monday morning around 9 am, from the CAPS building.
