Know any adventurous art/science high school students?

Check out the August Meeting of the High School Students’ Science Alliance at H.M.S. Beagle

180 English Landing Drive in Downtown Parkville

Daniel Eichenbaum and Bob Riddle, two members of the group Dark Matter, will be talking to the group about helping with their project, “Ascent.” Dark Matter received a 2011-2012 Rocket Grant to build and launch a high-resolution balloon camera system to shoot video footage at the edge of space above Kansas City. The video and still footage will later be used to create a live performance with music and narration next spring in the Gottlieb Planetarium. With HSSSA’s help, they hope to launch this September and reach for the stars.

Their website:  has more information on “Ascent.”

This meeting will also be exploring the “Chemistry of Pyro.”

Please bring notebooks and pens; there will be plenty of “secret” formulas revealed and presenters will attempt to answer all your questions about pyrotechnics.

Please RSVP to the event announcement: clk at  (Please copy and reformat this address with a regular “no spaces and @” to send. It has been altered to avoid phishing problems). Thanks.
